Michele Spotti is a 23 years old conductor, Principal Conductor of the Milano Chamber Orchestra and has won in August 2016 the second prize at the 7th International Competition Luigi Mancinelli Opera Conductors.
Michele was born in Cesano Maderno (Milano) in 1993 and has receveid from his home town an Honorary Citizenship for artistic merit in December 2014 (the youngest ever to receive this price). He graduated in Violin with Daniele Gay in June 2011 and in Conducting with Daniele Agiman in September 2014 both at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire in Milan. Michele has also studied piano and composition. In May 2014 he has won the first place in the competition to enter the Master of Conducting at the Haute École de musique of Genève (CH), where he currently works for the second and final year, with Antunes Celso and Laurent Gay. He will attend his final exam of this master on the 16th of June 2016.
In 2013 he has been active student of M°Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Chigiana’s Conducting Academy in Siena. Finalist of the first Riccardo Muti’s Italian Conducting Opera Academy in July 2015, Michele has attended in August 2015 as active student the Gstaad Conducting Academy (CH) studying with Nëeme Jaarvi, Leonid Grin and Gennady Roždestvenskij and in April 2016 he has been chosen by Gianandrea Noseda as active student for his conducting masterclass in Milan.
As violinist he has won several prices in various Italian competitions and has attended different international courses and masterclass in chamber music with groups such as the Quartet of La Scala and the Quartet of Shanghai. Michele has played in the Orchestra of the Academy of Teatro alla Scala and therefore has worked with conductors like Riccardo Muti, Daniele Rustioni, Fabio Luisi, Lawrence Foster, David Coleman etc..
Michele has as condcutor a very intense activity with both operatic and symphonic repertoire. His debut in opera has been in Orvieto in August 2013 with “Le Nozze di Figaro” and has performed “Elisir D’Amore” in Milan. In 2015 Michele has been selected by the orchestra of the Regione Piemonte (CRT) to conduct “La Fille du Regiment”.
In November- January 2015/2016 Michele has worked as assistant of Gergely Madaras for the production of the “Magic Flute” at the Grand Théâtre with the Orchestra of the Suisse Romande with such an excellent result that the Grand Theatre has already confirmed its intention to have him back soon.
In January 2016 he has opened the symphonic season in Magenta (MI) with in the programme also the 104 Symphony by Haydn. In April 2016 with the orchestra CRT of Regione Piemonte Michele has conducted 28 performances “Der Zigeunerbaron” in Turin. OPERA DE LYON invited him as assistant conductor of Rossini’s legend Alberto Zedda for the production of ERMIONE by Rossini performed both in Lyon and in Paris in November 2016 and will conduct for the ASLICO the whole project OperaDomani 2017 with Il Barbiere di Siviglia and touring Italy with it, between Feb. and June 2017, with more than 100 representations. It has been chosen to conduct in August 2017 the Opera “ Il Viaggio Reims” in the Young festival organised by the Rossini Opera Festival.
